2026 Honda CR-V vs.
2026 Chevrolet Equinox

The compact crossover market is brimming over with models, making it perhaps the most competitive automotive segment. Chevrolet gave the Equinox a shot in the arm with the launch of its fourth generation for the 2025 model year: the model’s significantly revamped exterior with a more aggressive truck-inspired design certainly brought it attention, with many buyers seeing it in a new light. The thoroughly modern interior helped as well, making the brand’s most popular crossover stand out in a field of many competitors. But do these changes from the previous model year give the Equinox enough of a leg up on the Honda CR-V? We took a close look to see how these two rivals stack up. Unless we state otherwise, our comparison involves the least expensive 2026 trims (Equinox LT and CR-V LX) with all-wheel drive.

Pricing, Standard Features, and Options

Right out of the gate, the Equinox takes the lead with a $32,795 base manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), compared to the CR-V’s $34,420. That $1,625 is especially worth noting given the Equinox’s more extensive standard equipment (keep reading for details).

The Equinox’s value advantage became clear when we compared its slate of standard features to that of the CR-V. Despite the lower cost of the Equinox, it comes with a number of comfort, convenience, and safety features that Honda reserves for higher CR-V trims.

Cold-weather amenities are a good example. The Equinox LT comes standard with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated side-view mirrors, and remote engine start. Chevrolet also upgrades the driving experience with aluminum wheels instead of the steel wheels on the CR-V LX, while a compact spare tire provides an extra measure of reassurance compared with a tire repair kit.

Technology is another area where the Equinox is ahead. Drivers get an 11-inch digital instrument display and an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, both of which are substantially larger than the CR-V’s standard screens. The Equinox’s long equipment roster goes on to include SiriusXM satellite radio, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, access to connected services, and an six speakers for the audio system. The safety technology also favors the Equinox, as its entry-level version gets rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert while the base CR-V does not.

The gap continues when it comes to the available options. Chevy buyers can add a power sunroof, a power driver’s seat, a power liftgate, and a surround-view monitor to the Equinox LT. Reaching similar equipment levels in the CR-V generally requires moving to a more expensive trim, while the surround-view monitor is unavailable altogether.

Powertrain

Both vehicles use a similar engine configuration: a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. While the CR-V produces more horsepower than the Equinox (190 hp versus 175 hp), the Chevrolet excels with higher torque (203 versus 179 lb.-ft.). Additional torque is significant in a utility vehicle as it can improve towing and initial acceleration. Plus, when the Equinox is equipped with all-wheel drive, it gets a conventional eight-speed transmission, which allows for better control than the continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the CR-V.

Warranty and Maintenance

The Equinox and CR-V are well matched with comparable warranty programs: a three-year or 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and powertrain protection for five years or 60,000 miles. Both companies also include free standard scheduled maintenance for the first year or 12,000 miles. However, the Equinox has an edge with lower projected five-year maintenance costs, according to Edmunds. In addition, Chevrolet offers roadside assistance for five years or 60,000 miles, while Honda’s program stops after three years or 36,000 miles. It’s also worth mentioning that J.D. Power and Associates ranked Chevrolet ahead of Honda in initial quality ratings (and most other mainstream brands) for the 2025 model year.
